Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year and to Grossmont High School. This next year promises to be one filled with many educational and extracurricular opportunities for your student and your family. From athletics to art, choir to computer, or dance to debate, there are a diversity of activities as diverse as the student body itself, and a place for everyone to bloom. In order to continue providing those opportunities, however, we need your help.
The Grossmont High School Educational Foundation is a not for profit 501(c) (3) corporation, whose primary mission is to enhance the overall educational experience of students by raising, managing and disbursing funds to support the academic, artistic, athletic, and facility needs of Grossmont High School. Our mission is critically important in these economic times, given the staggering budget cuts that education in the state of California has sustained. Meeting basic needs is a challenge, and “extras” are increasingly unaffordable.
That’s where you come in. We are asking all parents of current students to be a part of our annual fundraising campaign. Suggested levels of support are described below, but we accept any and all donations. You can choose to donate to the general, unrestricted fund, or specify that you would like the money to be channeled to a specific department or activity. They range from scholarships to supplies, and from books to buildings. All of these are items that fall OUTSIDE that which is in the school’s budget or which will be part of the construction funded by the recently passed bond. Our goal is $30,000 – the equivalent of only $10 per GHS student, less than the cost of a movie ticket. All donations are tax deductible.
Please consider making a donation at this time. We are always looking for enthusiastic individuals who want to participate in our board. We look forward to your involvement.

Grossmont Narrative |

Have you ever looked east from the campus to appreciate the snow on the Cuyamaca Mountains, so beautiful and seemingly so close? Ever looked up from the campus to spot the cross on Mount Helix? Ever noticed how dramatic Cowles Mountain seems, when viewed from the football field during afternoon practice? Ever realized how good the breeze feels in the afternoon as it finally makes its way up through Mission Valley, past the La Mesa foothills to the Grossmont Summit? Have you ever walked home from school picking fruit to eat off the bountiful trees in the area? If you have, so have many other Grossmont High students past and present.
We all share much the same experience the founders of this area enjoyed when they decided to make this rich soil--this spot of incredible panoramas and wonderful climate--a community. It was in this exuberant spirit in 1920 that Colonel Edward Fletcher, one of the fathers of East San Diego County development, donated 14 acres of land for a school that would ultimately impact the lives of many citizens of the Grossmont-Mount Helix, La Mesa, El Cajon, Bostonia, Fletcher Hills, Santee, Lakeside, Spring Valley, Lemon Grove, Alpine, Barrett and other areas. Through this school’s doors, men and women have lived, shaped and made history, developing memories that far outweigh the fleeting span of four years.
